Rugby Fridays Launched!

MILLWALL Rugby Club is hosting free rugby training for young players this summer as part of their push to introduce more youngsters to the sport.

Starting on July 29th and for five Fridays after, players aged between 7 and 17 can turn up for camp-style training sessions with qualified coaches during the summer holidays.

The aim of Rugby Fridays is to boost recruitment for next season while providing local kids with valuable training and stopping boredom in the school holidays.

Youth chair Matt Shorrock said: “We are pushing to get 50 kids to attend and want to promote the sport across Tower Hamlets.

“We are doing lots of publicity to make sure people who are interested come down and give it a try for the first time.”

Funding for the summer activities came from Canary Wharf Group as part of their Summer of Sports programme.

The sessions will run between 11am until 4pm on Millwall Park and a complimentary lunch will be provided in the club's refurbished Clubhouse next to Island Gardens DLR.

The Isle of Dogs club are also running Rugby Fitness for Kids every Wednesday evening on Millwall Park from 6pm-7pm and are also free for participants.
