Rugby First Aid Courses

Dear Players & Parents,

We are trying to get a First Aid Course arranged, to be hosted at
Millwall RFC for all people who need to need to attend.

The club committee has indicated that all coaches and team managers in
adult mens, ladies and youth will need to attend this course, but
there may be other people in the club who are interested in attending.

There may or may not be a charge for this course, but we will confirm
this before anyone has committed.

I know there are some of you who are already qualified, so if you are
could you please get in touch with me as I will need to see all the
certificates - I am building up a data base of all first aiders in the
club.

Once all the qualified people have replied, I will arrange a date for
all of you to come down to the rugby club so i can take copies of your
certificated.

If you can get back to me at dawn@millwallrugby.com
<mailto:dawn@millwallrugby.com>
to let me know if you are qualified OR if need to go on the course, I
would appreciate this.

Thanking you all,
Dawn Doherty
MRFC First Aid Officer

Junior Club Captain positive about new role

Press Release October 25 2010

With pic attached

MILLWALL'S new Junior Club Captain is just 11 years old but he's refusing to be overawed by the role which involves representing players up to eight years older than him.

Will Foley admits it will be a challenge handling the club's youth teams, including members of his own under-12s side, right up to the Colts players on the cusp of men's rugby.

"The Colts (under-19s) and even players the same age as me can be difficult sometimes," admitted Will, who also represents his school rugby team at Roding Valley High.

"But I think by talking to them one-on-one, explaining my role and how I can help them, I think I'll do okay."

The youngster from Bow is looking forward to his new position which will see him liaise between the young players and youth managers.

"It's important for all players to know that they have someone to go to for support who isn't an adult or if they have a problem or issue to be raised," said Will.

"I also make sure that kids' views are represented in decisions made by the youth managers."

Will first became involved with Millwall Rugby Club through the Josh Lewsey Rugby Academy, now known as the School of Hard Knocks Academy.

He is now an established member of Millwall's under-12s side but remains full of praise for the academy route into youth rugby.

"It just really gave me something to do," said Will. "Something to enjoy because I never really did much outside of school.

"Through the coaching in the schools and getting down to Millwall, it sort of became a new hobby to focus on.

"I had played rugby before at another club and I really didn't enjoy it but when I started going to the academy and Millwall, it was a lot more fun.

"I have met lots of good friends at Millwall too, so that's good."

Will's aims include supporting the minibus service which shuttles youngsters down to the training sessions in Mudchute and to encourage the coaches to introduce more contact rugby.

"The Millwall coaches need to make sure that the skills are progressing and the kids get to do some contact rugby because they might get bored learning the same skills they have been learning at school already," said Will.

But Will, who hopes to work in electronics or the world of video gaming when he eventually leaves school, is full of praise for the club, adding: "It's like a family here."

U15s bow out of Cup

MILLWALL'S under-15 team suffered a heavy defeat in their Essex Cup clash with Westcliff but spirits remain high for the rest of the seaons, says their coach.

Gary McLaughlin admitted that Westcliff deserved the 50-0 win but said his young Lions never gave up.

'As far as our team were concerned we were beaten by a better team on the day,' said McLaughlin.

'Our guys put up a fight and their heads didn't drop.'

McLaughlin singled out flanker John Woods for particular praise, adding: 'There was effort in every tackle he made.

'He was all over the park, constantly chasing the opposition.

'He ran his socks off from start to finish.'

And McLaughlin said his team wanted to 'train harder' and the best was yet to come.

He said: 'We have got a lot of time to improve.'

Millwall Under 10s - Plea for help!

Dear Players & Parents,

I'm hoping you can help me!

The School of Hard Knocks Rugby Academy (formerly Josh Lewsey's Rugby
Academy) is about to start attending Millwall RFC training sessions on
Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

I had a coach all lined up to welcome and train these kids, seperate
from the other youth teams. But that coach has let me down and 'cried
off' so much that I can no longer depend on him being there!

I desperately need a coach or coaches to take over coaching the
academy kids.

The kids are aged 9 and 10 and come from 5 schools within Tower
Hamlets. They have learnt tag rugby in their school sessions and the
plan is for us to introduce the basics of contact rugby to them.

If you can help out, even if its on the odd occasion only, please do
get in touch asap!

You'll be required to be at the Lower Paddock by 6pm on a Wednesday
evening and by 10:30am on a Sunday morning.

My existing youth coaches already have their hands full with their own
teams.

Please, please, please help out if you can!

Email me at youthchair@millwallrugby.com
<mailto:youthchair@millwallrugby.com>
asap

Thanks

U15s victorious while U12s improve

Millwall Rugby's youth teams put out improved performances this weekend as the U15s played their first match of the season, earning a victory over Bexley 29-15 at their ground.

At Millwall park, the clubs youngest team, the U12s fought hard against a larger and more experienced Ilford team, going down by a narrow 24-10 margin.

"The effort and improvement was there for both age groups" said youth chair Matt Shorrock "I'm very pleased for both coaches and their players, they should be proud of their performances, especially on a weekend when the adult section didn't have much success."

The U15 shot out of the gates against Bexley, scoring within the first few minutes to lead 7-0. Bexley hit back to trail 7-5 but Millwall kept the pressure on, running the ball freely and scoring another try to go into half time leading 14-5.

The second half proved no different for Millwall, as they scored tries effortlessly. Bexley scored a late try but it proved too little, as the visitors capped off the victory with another final minute score.

Meanwhile, Millwall U12s found themselves taking on Ilford U13s in a mismatch of skill, size and ages.

The youngsters held on valiantly and ended the match with an impressive 24-10 defeat.

centre Will Foley and forward Jack Anderson scored tries for Millwall.
