MILLWALL Colts manager Kevin Doherty praised his ever-improving side's spirited peformance despite the youngsters suffering defeat to Southend, losing 7-43.
A well-drilled Southend team visited Millwall Park on Sunday and dominated the first-half, running in four tries to no reply.
The second-half kicked off with Southend notching up another five points but a try from flanker George Mulock, converted by scrum-half Billy Gray, hinted at a Millwall fightback.
Sadly for Millwall, Southend touched down twice more to seal a comprehensive win for the visitors.
Doherty said his young charges showed clear signs of improvement in just their second game of the season and the best was yet to come.
'A positive to come out of the match was the tackling,' said Doherty.
'It was their second game and they showed they are getting better as a unit.
'But we need more match experience.'
