SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS FINAL

The final of the School of Hard Knocks Primary and Secondary schools
programme was held at Twickenham on the 9th of December, just prior to
the Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge, sponsored by Nomura.

The Primary final was won by Old Palace Primary, who defeated Olga
School 6 tries to 4, while Bishop Challoner Boys - who fielded
Millwall Lion U15 Miguel Miranda and former player Chris Papa -
defeated Stepney Green Secondary 1 try to Nil.

MRFC was represented by Youth Chair Matt Shorrock; U12s Coach Chris
Attwood and Colts Coach/LBTH RDO Scott Vinnicome along with Academy
Coordinator Steve Hill. They were accompanied by staff from the East
London Business Alliance (ELBA) and Nomura.

The day also included the children (and us!) meeting former England
scrum half Andy Gomersall, who made a rousing speach encouraging
Millwall Lions to continue driving for the expansion of rugby services
for children in Tower Hamlets.

Matt Shorrock, as he does, spent most of the day campaigning to 'the
corporates' about needing more support and impressing upon them the
importance of sustainability and legacy from their investment in the
game of rugby. Meanwhile Scott and Chris spent time trotting on the
Twickenham pitch during the finals as referee and linesman
respectively.

A great day was had by all - there was even a streaker! - and several
school players have been recruited to MRFC in the process. We look
forward to being involved in the acadamy again next year!

RFU YOUTH RUGBY SURVEY

The RFU National Youth Council (NYC) wants to hear what you have to
say about youth rugby. The following survey has been put together by
young players and volunteers, and get your voice heard by the 'Big
Guns' of the RFU. It's vitally important we get your opinion so
the game can develop the way you want it to. Your answers will also
let the NYC know what to work on over the next few years.

Please spare just a few moments to complete the survey, the closing
date is December 25. Your game, your voice, Get it heard now by
completing the RFU Youth Survey here:

COLD WEATHER ATTENDANCE

We know its cold this time of year, and sometimes staying at home to
play Call of Duty or watching X-Factor may sound more appealing than
getting muddy out in the freezing cold down at Mudchute.

But PLEASE remember that while you are tucked up warm, the hard
working coaches and volunteers still need to show up to training
regardless. Even if nobody shows up, they are STILL there, just in
case.

We do expect the same level of commitment from all of our players,
regardless.

Attendances dropped significantly in during the month of November and
early in December - even taking into account the cancelled session due
to snow.

So parents, PLEASE do your upmost to encourage your youngsters to get
off that sofa and down to training!

The results will show on the pitch, and in their own individual
performances, in no time!
